Hello everyone!
Welcome to my last blog post about my time abroad at Sussex University. I will admit I am writing this post a bit preemptively because tomorrow all of my things are being picked up and shipped home, including my laptop. You see for the next three weeks I will be travelling around Europe with some of my friends from Sussex. I am really trying to embrace the nomad style so I will be living out of a backpack for the entirety of the trip, but that is another story and another adventure, back to the one I am still on. Tomorrow is my final so I guess technically my time at Sussex has not come to a complete end, but give me 12 hours and I will officially be done! Yes, in 12 hours I will be done with physics forever--- it is quite an incredible feeling.
These past eight weeks at Sussex have flown by! It seems like just yesterday I was frantically packing and boarding my flight to come over here and tonight I have spent the past two hours again packing, but this time for my journey home.

For the past couple of days now I have been trying to brainstorm some ideas on what to write about in this last post. Because it is finals week I can't really give you a run down of what I did each day because 1) this week is only 3 days and 2) most of my time has been spent studying so my post would get a bit redundant. So I have decided to just use this last blog to reflect on my time at Sussex as a whole.
When I first applied to do the summer physics program at Sussex I was a bit hesitant. Not only did 8 weeks of straight physics sounds a bit intense, but it also meant the summer away from my family. I am originally from Chicago (where I got the name for my blog) and I go to school at UCLA. As you can imagine I don't get home too often during the year so summers are my time to be with my family and friends. Additionally my sister was starting college this year, and because I don't go home for Thanksgiving, that meant once I left for Sussex I wouldn't see her again until winter break. So yeah, I had some serious reservations about coming abroad, but looking back now I am so happy I came.
My entire time at Sussex has been nothing short of incredible. I asked some of my friends today why people should study abroad at Sussex (you know picking their brains in order to gain some inspiration) and aside from the obvious "you get a year's worth of physics done in eight weeks PLUS you get to spend those eight weeks in a different country" they all said something similar: because Sussex is great in every aspect. I asked them to expand upon it and here is the feedback I got:

- The location is perfect. You are not staying in a huge city like London where things are expensive and there can be quite a few of distractions, but you have that access to major cities if you want it. (Remember I spontaneously hopped on a train and was in London in a hour)
- The school makes you feel comfortable. The living situation has been prime. I am talking your own room with your own bathroom, and a full communal kitchen. But its more than that, it's also everyone you come in contact with while you are here. Like I said in one of my previous posts everyone here wants to see you succeed. There are so many resources and everyone is willing to help. Plus the AT's are really cool. We've become friends with a few over the last couple weeks and they have become handy resources on navigating Brighton.

It's hard to put into words just how wonderful this school, town and program is without repeating myself and sounding completely cliche so I will just say this: as excited as I am to leave tomorrow because that means I am done with physics and I can travel and eventually go home and see my family, I am also very sad. As I was packing up all of my things I began to realize this trip has been filled with some unforgettable moments, and after tomorrow nothing will ever be the same as what I have experienced these last two months. No more late night runs to the coop for ice cream, no more Sunday mass in tiny churches, no more spontaneous hikes that turn into 11 miles, and most upsetting no more afternoon tea! But looking on the bright side, thanks to all of these moments I have grown as a student and as a person. And when I think back on my time in Sussex I will do so with a smile.
A wise person once said all good things must come to an end, and so with that I say goodbye Sussex. You have been a great school and an even better home.
I would like to thank you readers for coming along on this journey with me. I hope you have enjoyed reading my posts and if you ever have any questions about Sussex or Brighton I would be more than happy to answer them!
Signing off for the last time,
Veronica
